What is/was your study about?

It is a Participatory Action Research Project on Family Needs which explores the experiences of Formal and Informal Support Services Available Among Zambian Families of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

 Career Highlights: 

Joachim Nyoni is a Senior Education Officer at Ministry of General Education Headquarters, Early Childhood Directorate in Lusaka, Zambia.

 He is a Doctoral  Student in Disability Studies at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. He has a Master of Arts in Child and Adolescent Psychology,  Bachelor of Arts with Education, Major in Psychology (BA, ED) from the University of Zambia (UNZA). He has a Diploma in Education and Primary Certificate from Nkrumah University College and Chipata College of Education respectively. Joachim has been working and involved in disability advocacy in the   education sectors for the past 24 years.

 He has taught at Primary, Secondary, University colleges and now in Policy making. Joachim has be involved in research work, published of his work, presented papers at  local and international conferences on disabilities. In 2019,he published two journal articles.

The current projects are:

1.A Participatory Action Research Project on Family Needs: Experiences of Formal and Informal Support Services Available Among Zambian Families of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (PhD project)

2.Indicators of Quality Education and Best Practices ( Inclusive Education (I.E) In Zambia) (2018.2020).

3. A comparison study about inclusive/special education involving Africa, South America and Europe (2019-2020).

How do you lead /advocate for disability inclusive practices:

I monitor, evaluate and recommend on how  policies on inclusive practices are implemented  in schools public, private and community schools. I sit in various Multi-sectoral line Ministries committees and those local and international organisations such as UNICEF,UNESCO that are involved in education and health. I use my personal influence in sports, teaching career and religious skills to advocate for inclusion in all sectors, mostly in communities.
